Switching schools · Mid-year enrollment
Changing schools in the middle of the year.
If your child is unhappy where they are, you do not have to wait for August. Children can start at SWREA on any school day, in any grade from kindergarten to fifth, and a Step Up scholarship can fund a move during the year. Here is how it works.

How it works
Three steps to a new start
A move during the year is mostly a matter of timing. The office handles the school side and tells you exactly what is waiting on you.
1. See the classroom
Book a visit while classes are in session, so you see a normal day, not an empty room.
2. Apply in two minutes
A short form with your contact details and each child's name and grade. We call within one business day.
3. Line up the scholarship
We submit your enrollment in EMA, Step Up's system, and you approve it. Then your child starts.
The scholarship, mid-year
Which Step Up dates apply to you
For the 2026-2027 school year, from Step Up For Students' published schedule. The right date depends on whether your child already has a scholarship.
Already on a scholarship
A Step Up scholarship can move with your child to a new school. For a transfer, the enrollment deadline for the last quarter is February 15, 2027.
New to Step Up
Apply by November 15, 2026 and accept your award by December 15. Enrollment completed by December 15 funds a January start.
After a bullying incident
Students who experienced documented bullying are one of the narrow groups who can apply after November 15, until April. Funding is not guaranteed, so call us early.
A fresh start
A calmer room to start over in
Children who change schools mid-year often need two things: to be known quickly, and not to be measured against a class that started months ago.

Starts where they are
Work is individual, so a new student begins from their own level, not from the page the class happens to be on.
Twelve to a teacher
Small enough that a teacher knows a new child by name, and by need, within days.
Kindness taught on purpose
Grace and courtesy, class rules the children write, and adults always close by. Bullying has little room to grow.
No hoops to get in
No admissions test, no minimum grade average and no English fluency requirement.
Questions Parents Ask
- Can my child change schools in the middle of the year in Florida?
- Yes. A family can move to a private school at any point in the year. If you use a Step Up scholarship, the timing of your scholarship enrollment decides when funding starts, so call us early.
- How soon can my child start?
- Any school day. Once your application is in and the paperwork is done, your child can start the next school day that suits your family. If you are using a Step Up scholarship, we will tell you which funding dates apply.
- Will my Step Up scholarship transfer to a new school?
- Yes. The new school submits your child's enrollment in EMA and you approve it. For 2026-2027, the transfer enrollment deadline for the last funding quarter is February 15, 2027.
- What if my child was bullied at their current school?
- Tell us when you call. Students who experienced documented bullying can apply for a Step Up scholarship after the November 15 deadline, until April, though funding is not guaranteed. And our classroom is built around teaching children to look out for one another.
- Will my child be behind if they join mid-year?
- No. Each child works from their own plan, so a new student starts from where they are, and the teacher fills any gaps one-on-one.
- Are there open seats?
- The founding class is capped at 24 students, and seats go in the order families apply. Call the office for today's count by grade.

More about life at SWREA
Kindness & leadership
Every child is known by name and adults are always close. Children learn to work in groups, solve problems together and look out for one another, and older students lead younger ones. Bullying has very little room to grow here.
English & Spanish
Spanish is part of every day, in morning meeting, stories and the calendar, not a once-a-week class. Children from English-speaking homes pick it up naturally, Spanish-speaking children grow their English, and families can talk to us in either language.
Transportation
SWREA has partnered with a local student transportation organization that can help get your child to and from school. If drop-off or pick-up is the hard part, call the office and we will walk you through it.
Christian Montessori
Hands-on materials, mixed-age classrooms and an uninterrupted morning work cycle, with Christ at the center. Families in Kissimmee rarely get to choose both.
Kindergarten
A Montessori kindergarten in Kissimmee: phonics from the first day, English and Spanish, twelve children to a teacher, and $0 for most Step Up families.
